This 22-minute video is an overview of the first points of European contact and settlement on the East Coast of America, from Columbus in 1492, to the Pilgrims in 1620.

Besides the Spanish Forts in Saint Augustine, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico, only one structure built by the early Spanish, French, and English settlers of the 1500’s still exists in North America:

The John Dee Tower of 1583, the 28-foot-tall stone-and-mortar tower that still stands in Touro Park, Newport, Rhode Island.
